Hello there!
We come to you now from the middle of nowhere. We’re currently at a campsite near Meziadin Junction, a microscopic community (really, a single gas station) along the Cassiar highway in British Colombia. We’ve been traveling hard for the last three days. Something like this:
We started this week in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. It ended up being a fantastic stay - we found some amazing Greek food, did our laundry, took a few walks, and generally lazed about in our AirBnB. Sometimes you need to plunk down on a couch. Having learned our lesson re: ferries, we picked up a ticket for the Saturday afternoon crossing to the mainland via Horseshoe Bay. Our plan was to do some dispersed camping near Lillooet…but they had a severe thunderstorm blowing through that same night and we didn’t want to wake up in a mud pit. So we suffered through at a hotel in Whistler instead.
This is more or less the only photo I got from Saturday. Life comes at you fast.
The next day, we drove the Sea to Sky highway. It’s basically Whistler to Lillooet. I think I could write an entire blog post about this road. I’ve seen a lot of cool roads - Beartooth, the Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ride Parkway, California Route 1…the Arkansas Pig Trail (no joke, amazing). Sea to Sky might have them all beat.
Again, and unfortunately, I only got one photo of the entire experience. At the very end near Lillooet. It’s fine.
In any case, if you’re ever in south BC and need something to do…take a drive out of Whistler. It’s worth it. That evening - Sunday - we landed in Prince George. It’s a mid-sized city where the Alcan and BC 16 meet. They have a pizza place - Betulla Burning - that has some of the best Neopolitan pizza we’ve ever had.
(I’m realizing now that many of the claims in this post sound exaggerated - “the best”. I think we’ve just gotten lucky in the last few days. Or maybe I just don’t tell you about the duds? The block of cheese, head of lettuce, and ketchup chips we bought from the 70 Mile House General Store? Not great.)
That brings us to today. We drove out of Prince George along highway 16. We made a few stops. Here are some pictures.
We showed up at this campsite - at Meziadan Lake Provincial Park - around 6pm and were able to nab a first come first serve site. I did some minor work on the Lexus’ wheel hubs, we said hello to the dozen or so motorcyclists up for the season, and Casey made black bean and avocado tacos for dinner. It’s now 11:30pm and is still bright enough out that I can see the lake.
(Since my dad will ask: there are tons of KTMs, maybe half a dozen big BMWs, two Yamahas, and a single - and surpisingly functional - Harley Davidson Road King.)
That’s all for now. Be on the lookout for Casey’s Corner Episode 1! Casey is going to have her own set of blog posts here on Odd Overlanders. I’m excited to read it. See y’all out there.
I will let the ketchup chip hate slide this time... lol.
How's the Olympia Coffee stash? Lmk when you need a refill! <3

So much beauty everywhere!! I am sure the pictures are not near as breathtaking as it is in person!! It sounds like you both had a lot of driving/riding these last several days.
The pizza does look delicious, and I am sure you guys thoroughly enjoyed it!
Stan and I both thought about the bright nights and how it may be affecting both of you sleeping. Take care, love the posts and the pictures, and looking forward to reading more and more! Love you both beyond measure! Until next time, mom (J)
